I came home today to a copy of Interweave Knits waiting for me--one of my neighbors shares my passion for knitting so she left me her well worn summer issue. I was looking through the pages quickly and fell in love with a certain top. I'd love to knit it...it's just beautiful.
One problem though...and I find this in LOTS of magazines...I'm a plus size gal. I have a hard time finding any patterns that would fit me. I wonder if I could convert the pattern to the correct size? Is that even feasible or should I just give up on the dream of this nifty little top?
I came home from work today to find a little package waiting for me from my One Skein Secret Pal. Inside was a beautiful handmade card and some of the prettiest yarn I've seen in a loooooooong time.
I've got a few ideas of what I'd like to make with it running around in my head. As much as I'd like to make something for myself, I don't think that's gonna happen. My
sister is already laying claim to this pretty yarn. What she'll end up with (if I do indeed give in to her pleas) reamins to be seen.
Success! My little blue bowl turned out beautifully! I can see many more of these bowls in my future for quick gifts.
I used the little white bowl for shaping. I let it air dry overnight and when I woke up this morning, my pretty little blue bowl was ready to face the world.
I've had questions as to what one does with a felted bowl. Anything you want is the easy answer! *LOL* Seriously though, you can put beads, crystals, loose change, your keys, even potpourri in the little bugger.
One project isn't enough to keep me busy now...I need more to do! Actually, I got distracted by some pretty blue merino wool yarn. It was urging me to work with it...so I did.
This was my first attempt at felting and so far, so good. I used a pattern from
One Skein to make a bowl, something that would be pretty yet fuctional. I knit the majority of it last night when I couldn't sleep (who says insomnia isn't productive?!). I could probably have finished it totally last night but I had to at least attempt to get some sleep so that I could be semi-coherent at work.
Now, to get back to the socks that I've been wanting to knit for months!
I did the finishing touches today and cast it off the needles, hoping for the best.The pattern itself is easy to follow and I must say that the bowl itself knits up rather quickly--all tolled, this took maybe 3/3 1/2 hours to knit and that's being generous. Here it is just after being taking off the needles. Yes, it does look like limp noodle. At this point I was beginning to get very worried that this wouldn't work.
I decided that I was going to felt this by hand, just to see what would happen. I plunged my limp noodle into a bath of hot water and added a teeny weeny bit of laundry soap. At first, it got bigger. MUCH bigger. *gulp* Then I could feel it starting to come together. After a good bit of scrubbing and dunking and more scrubbing and dunking, I ended up with what appeared to be a bowl of some sort. I quickly put it around the bowl I wanted it to resemble and ended up with this:
. I've got something sitting on top of the bottom of the bowl to give the bottom some flatness. Now, I let it dry and see what happens.
I've been wanting to try my hand at knitting socks. I've had a devil of a time with DPN's though. I was determined to not let the multiple needles beat me today. A little bit leary at the start, I actually have the beginnings of a sock on my needles, 4 DPN's at that:

The word for today is Fneh. I worked nearly 20 hours in the last two days and my butt is dragging. Hosting back to back functions at work sucks. (Double fneh!!) At least my boss was nice enough to let me leave early today.
When I got home last night, I wanted to knit but didn't. I hadn't slept well the night before so I fell into bed and had to force myself to wake up to get to work early today for a presentation this afternoon.
I have a couple of projects I want to work on this weekend and a yen to go yarn shopping but I'm going to play each day by ear. Right now, I don't have the energy to do much of anything.
I also want to get a couple of new books to read. I may check out Half Price Books at some point as well. Again, that's if I have the energy.

finally finished the baby blanket that never seemed to end yesterday. It took forever, but, it was worth it. Here's a shot of the finished BBTNE.
It's the biggest project I've completed thus far in my knitting career. I finished just in time too: the baby this blanket belongs to decided to make an early entrance into the world yesterday by nearly a month!
I added some pink flowers to one corner of the blanket so that folks would know this was for a little girl. My
sister and I decided on mint green because we thought that the parents would have pink overload. In any case, the blanket is all boxed up and ready to go to my sister who will deliver it to the new little one and her proud parents!
I'm still knitting the baby blanket that never ends (TBBTNE), but, I took a break this week to work on a few different things.
Two of these things were these dishsloths.They knit up relatively quickly, when the yarn cooperates. The blue yarn had a mind of its own and had to be frogged and restarted several times.
I found success early this morning though and these two are ready to go in the mail tomorrow (I made them for a friend).
I've also attempted to knit a cupcake and though it looks very abstract, I was successful in this too. No pics of this though, I'm still trying to make it look more like a cupcake than a piece of abstract art.
I've casted on the first stitches for a pair of socks and am working on these too. We'll see how the sock knitting goes, I'm hopeful that all goes well.
