The first cold of the season has struck...and it's a whopper. I haven't done much of anything since Sunday night other than move from the couch to the bed and back again. Watery eyes? Check. Runny, congested nose? Check. Nasty cough and sore throat to go along with that? Check. I feel like death on a cracker.

I've gone into work each day, but, today I ended up leaving after only 90 minutes. I couldn't handle it anymore. I came home and climbed into bed, but, sleeping was futile...everytime I'd drift off, I'd cough or need to blow my nose so I could breathe. I should follow my sister's advice and get some Nyquil, but, that will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm not moving from the house.

Because of this cold, not much knitting has gotten accomplished. I pick it up, only to put it down again a few minutes later. I need to finish a bag for my International Tote KAL...I'd love to felt it this weekend if the fates are kind to me.

I just need to feel ....human again.

Today was a lazy day in Katy Land. I cleaned a little, vegged out in front of the TV and knit ALOT. My One Cable Scarf is progressing nicely--pics to come--, I worked on a couple of dishcloths and even managed to start a bag for my International Tote Exchange. I even taught myself how to pick up stitches, something that I thought would be harder than it actually was. Not a big deal, but, a new skill nonetheless. I just hope my partner likes the colors I've chosen for her--the base of the bag is a nice neutral khaki and the body is a very pretty rose.

I also got a phone call tonight from a friend of mine from high school. In those 4 years, Tammy and I were very close. As it happens with most people, we lost touch with each other. She found me via Myspace. When she called, the first words out of her mouth were "Thank God I found you at last!" I didn't think I was important enough to be missed....turns out I was wrong. We spent a good bit catching up. That was an excellent way to spend a couple of hours....

It's after midnight here and I should go to bed, but, I'm too wired. I think I'll work on my bag for a bit and then turn in.

I decided to start on my bag for my International Tote Knitalong last night--I have until the end of next month to get my partner her bag, so I think that's plenty of time (who the heck am I kidding? I should have started this last year!!). I cast on my stitches and starting knitting and purling the first round and....meh....I can tell already that this isn't going to go well. Something in my bones is telling me that this yarn wants to be a bag, but, not the bag I have in mind.

Today, I did a quick search for bags and came across a pattern for one that looks like it will go much easier and still allow me to show my creative side. The yarn and I will have a discussion tonight when I get home and see if this pattern is more agreeable to both of us.

Before I go, I want to welcome my One Skein Secret Pal, Christianne, to my blog! Hi Christianne! To answer your question, the yarn for the One Cable Scarf is Paton's SWS, a rare find (for me, anyway) at Michael's. It's soft and is supposed to get softer with each washing. I hope you publish a blog...if I can do it, anyone can :)

By Jove, I think I've got it! And I come bearing photographic proof!!

After much hair pulling and cursing the day I wanted to learn how to do cables, I think I've finally got the hang of it. I started the One Skein Single Cable Scarf yet again last night, this time with the pattern correction in hand. I was more than a little anxious for this version of the scarf to turn out in a much better fashion. Thus far, I think it's going rather well.

You can judge for yourself....I do believe those are cables that I see on that there scarf!

This scarf is going to be for the Think Pink Challenge, a KAL for scarves for breast cancer surviors. There's a link over on my sidebar if anyone's interested. Granted, there's not much time left, but, it's a worthy cause. For what it's worth, I'm doing this in honor of my grandmother, a crocheter, who passed away from breast cancer in 1987.

I know, it's just a single cable...but I really thought I wouldn't be able to do cables at all. I'd been told they were much harder than they actually turned out to be.

Next up, multiple cables!

I was easing into my day at work and found yet another knit along that was just calling my name, the Dishcloth KAL. (Note the prettiful button on my side bar!)
I've recently come across a bunch of patterns for dishcloths that will be perfect for this KAL.

After getting thoroughly frustrated with the One Cable Scarf from One Skein, I was more than thrilled today to find a correction to the pattern. I would complete the first go round of the cable with no problem, only to screw up the second repeat of the pattern. I thought I was reading the pattern wrong, that I missed a step, that cables would be another thing to add to my "Katy'll Never Master This" list.

I've printed out the correction and plan on going home and seeing if things go better tonight. Maybe, just maybe, I'll have a cable scarf.

Ever have one of those days where everything you touch falls apart? That's my day today.

I decided Labor Day would be a creative day for me and I'd spend it working on one project or another.

I've screwed up EVERY SINGLE FLIPPIN' PROJECT that I've touched. Every single one. I recently got into ATC (Artist Trading Cards) thanks to my sister and have started drawing again. I should say have recently started to attempt drawing again. Whatever I drew today sucked. Big time.

I also decided that this weekend, I'd teach myself cables. That's not going so well either. First part of the cable pattern goes just fine. Second start of the pattern is where I screw it up. EVERY SINGLE FLIPPIN' TIME.

I'm thinking that I'm going to park my butt on the couch in front of the TV. I can't screw up too much by watching some mindless television.
