I haven't been doing a whole lot of knitting, it's just been too hot! It's the type of heat where you break out into a sweat just moving from room to room. I live in a very cute one bedroom apartment on the third floor. It's roasting some days! I have a window A/C unit and I am so grateful for that.
I did find some dishcloth patterns and have managed to start one. I'm a little more than 1/2 way done with it and it's looking pretty good. I'll post pics when I'm done.
I also need to figure out what I'm sending my One Skein Secret Pal. I have some ideas, but, thus far, inspiration hasn't struck. I did send my partner her second skein of yarn on Friday (talk about under the wire!). Hopefully she'll like it. I took a picture of the skein before I sent it so I'll post that soon as well.
Here's a better shot of the yarn I received from my One Skein Secret Pal the other day. I still have plans to make the little bauhaus (I think that's right)(spiral) bag out of it. The colors are so rich and vibrant, like holding a rainbow in your hand.
I was killing time at work the other day and was looking around on ebay. I found a signed copy of
Big Girl Knits. It was at a reasonable price so I decided to bid on it. I ended up winning the book for $13 and change. Pretty good deal in my opinion since it retails for $30.00 and what I won it for (including shipping) is even cheaper than Amazon.
I'm hoping this book lives up to all the good things I've heard about it!
I came home from work yesterday and found a little package from my One Skein Secret Pal waiting for me.
I received a beautiful purple mohair yarn last month and this month I wasn't disappointed either! It's a beautiful Italian yarn from Fila Tura Di Crosa (hope I spelled that right) in the colors of the rainbow. I know just what I want to make with it too...the little bag from the book. I'm not sure about a couple parts of the pattern, but, I'll figure it out. And another beautiful handmade card! I have one very talented Secret Pal!
During my hiatus, I did some reading on dying your own yarn. I've ordered some yarn from
and am planning on using some Kool Aid to try my hand at this.
I also did a bit of reading on spinning. I'd like to give this a whirl too. It looks a bit complicated at first but I think I could get the hang of it.
Anybody out there have any tips or recommendations for either dying your own yarn, spinning or both?
I've been making bowls, bowls and more bowls! *LOL* My sister has requested four of them and I've made a couple to include in some care packages for other friends.
This is one of the bowls for my sister. It's got swirls of blue and black througout and turned out much better than I expected. As I said, she requested four of them and I hope she's pleased with what I've done thus far.
The brown bowl and the green bowl are also for my sister. I've made two of the purple bowls for care packages for friends.
I had some trouble with my cable and internet--it went out last Saturday night and it took until Thursday evening for me to be back online and have digital cable again. I called the cable company daily complaining--it was like pulling teeth to get a technician out to my apartment. I'm not even going to get into the fact that they wanted to come nearly 3 hours early (while I was still at work and noone was home!). Suffice it to say I was not a happy camper. I passed the time by knitting and reading some magazines for project ideas.
